Mario Bros Game History

The first in the series of games to be released, saw a character emerge that would be the flagship of Nintendo's gaming exploits up until the present day and probably beyond. The character first saw the light of day, in another hugely successful game for Nintendo, “Donkey Kong” which sold a massive 66,000 worldwide. But Mario was about to ditch his previous profession and become a plumber, and this was one of the smartest decisions Nintendo would make.

The History of Mario Bros

Developed and published by Nintendo, designed by Shigeru Miyamoto, Mario Bros. was released for the arcades in 1983. The game was also released for Nintendo Entertainment System in the same year. As with all Mario Bros. incarnations, the game was a single or two player game of the platform genre.

As the player, your objective was to defeat all the various enemies that emerge from the pipes. Mario or Luigi must hit their enemies directly from below, doing this will flip them over onto their backs. Whilst on their backs, the brothers must then run over them, which immediately knocks them off the screen. The various enemies are; Shellcreeper – A turtle; Fighter Fly – As the name suggest, a flying enemy that can only be destroyed when it lands; Sidestepper – Crabs; Slipice – A block of ice that freezes any platform it stops on.

Because of the success of the game, and the popularity of the character Mario, the game was released on numerous home based consoles and computers, including;
